About the Chamber

The Salem Chamber of Commerce is a voluntary organization of business and professional men and women who work together for the purpose of promoting the community of Salem and Fulton County. The strength of the chamber lies in attracting the greatest of members from the community, creating a pool of resources from which ideas, energy and finances can be drawn. The Mission of the Salem Chamber of Commerce is to coordinate, lead, and promote business development, economic development and tourism while enhancing the quality of life and the natural resources of the area thorough community involvement and recognition. The Chamber is run by volunteers who share an interest in making Salem and Fulton County a better place to live and work.

Board of Directors

The Chamber members elect a Board of Directors to lead the Chamber as they work for the betterment of Salem and Fulton County. Officers are elected by the board members and consist of President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Past President serves on the board as an advisor. Board members serve 3 year terms and can be re-elected.

Finances

The Chamber is financed by membership fees and fund raising projects. The Salem Chamber of Commerce is a non-profit organization and has 501c IRS status.

Chamber Sponsored Activities and Events

The Chamber sponsors an annual Chamber Auction and BBQ Dinner in March of each year. This event is the major fund raising project for the chamber. Chamber officials solicit donations from businesses and individuals for the auction and offer a large variety of items for sale including furniture, tools, small appliances, household items, dining packages, collectibles, farm equipment, and other items. Funds from the auction and dinner are used to fund projects and events throughout the year and a scholarship to a graduating senior.

The Chamber sponsors two Community Yard Sales and Business Sidewalk Sales each year in April and September. In conjunction with these events the Fulton County Fair Association sponsors the Fairgrounds Flea Market. Over 100 spaces are available for rent in two buildings at the Fulton County Fairgrounds. These two events bring a large number of visitors to Salem.

The Chamber Awards Banquet honors the Community Service Person of the Year, the Business Person of the Year and the Fulton County Farm Family of the Year.

Lights on the Square is held the first Monday in December each year. This is the official kick-off for the holidays in Salem.

The Chamber is also involved in the Fulton County Homecoming Festival Memorial Day weekend and the Fulton County Fair in August.
